Morganzo 55: Double Nickels on the Grime. Your Bozeman Gravel Fix.
- No entry fee.
- No support.
- First one done gets first crack at the beer.
Cue sheets will be provided at the start and there will be some veteran riders on the course should you wish to follow. Road quality in these parts varies from regularly graded gravel to rutted, impassable when wet farm roads. This year's finish line has been moved back approximately 2/10ths of a mile to avoid a small section of asphalt with high speed auto traffic but is within sight of the parking area.

Bozeman Bike Kitchen Grand Re-Opening
What: The Bozeman Bike Kitchen is Hosting a Grand Re-Opening Party!
When: Thursday, May 15at 4:00pm - 8:00pm
Where: Bozeman Bike Kitchen - 2104 Industrial Drive, Bozeman, Montana 59715
RSVP: facebook.com/events/311033502380342/
We're having a Grand Re-Opening Celebration and invite you to visit our new space, learn about our programs, mingle with like-minded folks, and celebrate bicycling!
The Bike Kitchen has humble roots going back to the days when we were located in one of our founder's driveways, followed by our time "squatting" in a chicken coop, followed by a quaint garage. This winter we moved into an airy, visible, and quality garage space located at in the old Thompson Rental building.
On Thursday, May 15th during Bozeman's Bike Week the Bike Kitchen invites you to our space to chat with our Board of Director's, meet our Volunteer Staff, take a tour of our facility, and have a good time.
Bring your kids as we'll be holding a mini "bike rodeo" on site. We are working to have food and drink options available (in progress) to make an evening out of it all. Please drop by to say hi if you've never had a chance to look us up, or if it's been awhile since you've come down. We look forward to meeting you!

Yes, You Can Actually Affect Change In Politics
The Bozeman Mayor and City Commissioners are very accessible people who listen closely to those who have appointed them. And you, yes YOU have a voice in our upcoming election. If you're interested in hearing from those who are up for election visit the upcoming Candidate's Forum hosted by the League of Women Voters.
Where: City Commission room of City Hall
When: 6:45pm on Oct. 22nd
What:
- The moderator welcomes the candidates and the audience. She will identify the candidates by name and according to the office and term sought.
- The moderator explains the evening's format and rules.
- Each candidate will have up to 1½ minutes to introduce him/herselfand explain his/her qualifications and why he/she would like to be elected.
- Each candidate will answer one question that has been provided in advance. This will be timed at 2 minutes.
- The forum will be opened to questions from the audience. Questions can be directed to one candidate or more. Each candidate will have a chance to answer, however, whether or not identified by the questioner.
- Each candidate will have 2 minutes for a closing statement.
- The timer will let each candidate know when he or she has one-half minute remaining, and no time remaining. Candidates will be asked to finish promptly when the time is up.
- While candidates will not be so closely timed in answering questions from the audience, the moderator will remind candidates of time constraints if answers get long.
- The moderator will ask members of the audience to pose questionswithout comments-i.e., editorializing. The forum is designed to hear candidates' views and not the audience's.
- The audience will have the option to ask questions verbally themselves or they can write their questions on cards for the moderator to ask. The first part of the forum will be verbal questions and the latter part will use the written questions.
- If a member of the audience asks that a question be answered yes or no,the candidates will be allowed to qualify or explain their answers. The forum is meant to help voters understand the candidates' positions, not force candidates to select answers they don't feel comfortable about.
- If questions or answers become repetitive or courtesy is not shown, the moderator will intervene.

Morganzo: Double Nickels on the Grime Update
The 55-mile course for Morganzo: Double Nickels on the Grime is looking great. I rode parts of it last night while trying to figure out which machine would suit me best for the actual event on July 14th.
Wanting desperately to use the fully rigid ride pictured below, I installed 42mm tires, dropped the psi, and tested it out last night. Alas, some of the rutted, dried mud sections were still a bit too rough for my comfort level. The rocky, molded sections of road even rattled my water bottle out of its cage at one point.
Fortunately, at least 45 miles are more like the lovely gravel you see above. Even so, I believe suspension (probably a hard tail) is the best choice for the terrain.
And why do they call it Morganzo? See here...
Yup. A bunch of them Morgan kids still have property up there north of town. Hopefully they won't mind us sharing this lovely land with them.
See ya out there in a couple weeks.

Informational meeting to discuss Rouse Avenue Reconstruction projects in Bozeman, MT – Gallatin County
Bozeman - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is conducting an informational meeting to discuss a proposal to reconstruct approximately 2.03 miles of Rouse Avenue/Bridger Drive from Main Street (Reference Marker 0.0) to Story Mill Road (Reference Marker 2.03) in Bozeman, Gallatin County, to meet current MDT urban roadway standards while adding capacity. The meeting will start with an open house at 6:30 p.m. followed by a brief presentation at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Bozeman Senior Center, 807 N Tracy, in Bozeman.
Community participation is a very important part of the process, and the public is encouraged to attend. Opinion, comments and concerns may also be submitted in writing at the meeting, by mail to Jeff Ebert, District Administrator, at MDT’s Butte district office at PO Box 3068; Butte, MT 59702-3068, or online at
http://www.mdt.mt.gov/mdt/comment_form.shtml
Please indicate comments are for project CN 4805 and submit by February 27, 2012.
Proposed work includes reconstruction and widening throughout the corridor; intersection improvements with turn lanes; addition of bike lanes, sidewalks, and a two-way left turn lane (TWLTL) throughout much of the corridor to improve safety and level-of-service (LOS); side-street improvements at intersections to accommodate turning movements; and storm drainage improvements. The corridor is proposed to be reconstructed in two segments: Main Street to Oak Street and Oak Street to Story Mill Road. The purpose of the projects is to improve vehicular level of service and enhance bike and pedestrian travel within the Rouse Avenue corridor.
The target ready date to acquire right-of-way and complete design is December 2012. The actual start of construction will be dependent on the availability of funds.
New right-of way and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all affected landowners prior to doing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
MDT attempts to provide accommodations for any known disability that may interfere with a person’s participation in any service, program or activity of our department. If you require reasonable accommodations to participate in this meeting, please call Paul Grant at (406) 444-9415 at least two days before the meeting. For the hearing impaired, the TTY number is (406) 444-7696 or 1-800-335-7592, or call Montana Relay at 711. Alternative accessible formats of this information will be provided upon request.
